SHORT ITINERARY

Day 1 Njp to Uttarey drive via Jorthang
Day 2 Trek from Uttarey to Thulodhap Campsite(13km)
Day 3 Proceed to Kalijhar Campsite(4km)
Day 4 Early morning hike to Phoktey Dara & back, after breakfast proceed to Phalut/Thulodhap via Singalila Pass(12km)
Day 5 Proceed to Gorkhey(15km)
Day 6 Trek to Bhareng(4km) & Drive to Njp

LONG ITINERARY

Day 1 Morning pickup from Njp/Bagdogra & drive to basecamp Uttarey. It will take approx 6-7 hrs max. You should reach uttarey by evening. Stay at homestay/lodge.

Day 2 Trek starts from today. total distance is 11km & it will take approx 6-7hrs to reach the campsite. Trail will climb through the village & then go gradually up through the forest. Gradual up all the way till Achalley campsite(which is the campsite of maximum teams, hence very crowded), after that all the way down till you reach Thulodhap.

Day 3 Total distance around 4km & it will take 4-5hrs. First trail will go gradually up through the forest. after sometime these tree line will end, that place is called Chhip, you’ll get beautiful & close view of Mt Kanchenjung from here. From this point Kalijhar is just few kms on a mountain flat trail.

Day 4 Total distance 12km & it will take 5-6hrs. Today is the summit day and not just one, you’ll hit two summits today. you’ll reach Phoktey Dara top first which is just 1-2km climb from Kalijhar campsite, sunrise from this point is something to remember for lifetime for sure. you will mainly get a massive view of mountains from Kanchenjunga range, you’ll also get a chance to see Everest, Lohtse, Makalu & other ranges from nepal from this point. after sunrise you’ll come back at Kalijhar for breakfast & after that you’ll start for your next campsite. Trail will go gradually up all the way till Singalila pass, which is the second summit of the day & the highest point of this trek. From here you’ll go down all the way till Toriphulley & after that another 1-2hr uphill till you finally reach Phalut.

Day 5 You can go to Phalut top for sunrise view which is only 1km from here. You’ll get clean view of mountains surrounding you. After breakfast we will go down all the way to a picturesque village Gorkhey today. Distance 15kms time 5-6hrs.

Day 6 Today morning we’ll do a short hike till Bhareng, your trek unofficially ends here. From here we’ll take car & should reach Njp/Bagdogra by afternoon via Jorethang. This is the drop point & your trek ends here.

HOW TO REACH

nearest airport is Bagdogra. Njp is well connected by trains from all over india & by bus from kolkata & nearby locations. our pickup & drop will be from airport/railway station.

FITNESS REQUIRED

you can start by jogging everyday. start slowly with shorter distance & keep increasing it day by day. start preparing from at least one month before the trek.

WHY THIS TREK

Phoktey dara is a classic trek which is ideal if you at least have one previous trek experience. you will touch two summit points in a single trek, also you’ll get to see 4-5 8000m+ peaks from this trek & no other treks in india offer the same thing. this trek is filled with beautiful old forests, gorgeous views of mountains, high pass crossing & clear view from the summit & the sunrises, ocean of clouds are just something not to forget for lifetime.

BEST TIME TO TREK

during oct nov you’ll get clear mountain views & also beautiful sunrise & sunset. day temp 15-18 & night minus 2-5. dec is also a good time for clear view but pass crossing will be difficult during late dec or jan if there is excess amount of snow.

during april you will get forest full of rhododendron flowers & also there might be snow on the upper portion of this trek. day temp 15-18 & night around 0

EQUIPMENT LIST

good trekking shoe with good grip, ankle support. a 50-60L rucksack, proper winter clothes like a good jacket, thermals, good pants etc
