SHORT ITINERARY


D1 Reach Leh. Pick up from airport.
D2 Acclimatization at Leh.
D3 Car to Chilling. Trek to Skyu.
D4 Trek to Markha.
D5 Trek to Hankar.
D6 Trek to Nimaling
D7 Trek to Chuskurmo/Shang Sumdo. Car to Leh.

DETAILED ITINERARY

D1 Pick up from Leh airport, transfer to hotel/homestay. Take the afternoon to walk around in Leh market.

D2 Permit preparation.. You can visit nearby tourist attractions like Shanti Stupa, Leh palace, Tibetan museum. Briefing about the expedition route, Q/A session on route and expedition gear in the evening.

D3 Leave for Chilling after breakfast. We will enter Hemis National Park. Cross Zanskar river on pulley bridge to start the hike. We will follow the Markha river from now on. Flat terrain all the way. Walk past Kaya village and end the day’s trek in Skyu. Visit Skyu monastery.

D4 We will crisscross Markha river for a few times as we walk upstream towards Markha. A steep ascent for a short distance as we enter Markha. Visit Markha Gompa.

D5 Flat terrain for most of the day with a few short uphills. Views of Kang Yatse peak on the way. Cross Umlung village into Hankar.

D6 A steep climb up to Thochungtse shortly after we leave Hankar village. You can spot herds of blue sheep, marmots, pika (rat-like rodent). Thochungtse offers majestic views of the Markha Valley and Kang Yatze, Stok Kangri peaks. Gradual downhill all the way to Nimaling.

D7 Steep uphill walk to Kongmaru La and steep downhill till Chuskurmo. Gradual terrain till Shang Sumdo. Car to Leh.

HOW TO REACH

Taking a fight to Leh is the easiest option. Alternatively if you want to travel by road, Leh is well connected to Srinagar and Manali. Travelling by road would add a few more days to your plan but on the other hand help you acclimatize better.

FITNESS REQUIRED

Good level of fitness required. Cardiovascular and aerobic capacity should be high as well as being mentally strong.
For Markha Valley trek, general levels of fitness is enough.

Beautiful trans Himalayan Ladakhi landscapes are the constant in this trek . You Get to see remote villages, their traditional homes, ancient stupas, mani walls and the local culture. Also crossing Two High altitude passes gives you a lot of confidence to go forward for higher trails of the Himalayas
