SHORT ITINERARY

Day 1 – Reach Manali and stay in a hotel.

Day 2 – Drive to Jobra and Trek to Chika

Day 3 – Trek to Balu ka Ghera

Day 4 – Trek to Shea Goru via Hampta Pass

Day 5 – Trek to Chatru, Visit Chandratal and stay in Chatru.

Day 6 – Drop to Manali

LONG ITINERARY

Day 1: Reach Manali and stay in a Hotel

Reach Manali by evening, this day’s stay will be arranged by us.

DAY 2: Drive to Jobra and Trek to Chika

After checking out from the hotel in the morning our car will drop you at the starting point of this trek, Jobra (3000 m). There are enough water sources on the way. After a short hike for about 30 minutes through jungles will take you to the open valley. The Rani River makes the scene more dramatic and will accompany you to your campsite at Chika (3100 m).

DAY 3: Trek to Balu Ka Ghera

It will take around 6 hours to reach Balu Ka Ghera (3,600 m), 9 km approx.
The trail for Balu ka Ghera is a bit challenging for its gradual ascent, river crossing and boulder walking but the mesmerizing views will never stop you wondering. The tree line vanishes upon reaching the midway of today’s trail and the scenery starts shifting. The unique view of the campsite will make anyone awestruck.

Day 4: Trek to Shea Goru via Hampta pass

You can divide today’s trail(7 km) in two parts, ascend to Hampta Pass(4,300 m) and descend to Shea Goru(3,900 m), which can take 8-10 hrs approx. Most likely you will not get any water source today (depending on the weather) so carry an extra bottle of water. The gradual ascent from the campsite will take you in the footsteps of a mountain that leads to Hampta Pass. The steep ascent to the pass can be very challenging but the way down is more tricky. It will take roughly 3 hours of walk to the campsite from Hampta pass. Shea Goru is the coldest place on this trek.

Day 5: Trek to Chatru, Drive to Chandratal and back to Chatru

It’s a 7 km downhill trek to Chatru(3,350 m), which can take 5-6 hours. Be careful on the downhill as the trail has slippery parts and sometimes it leads you to the edges of mountains and ridges. There are a couple of water sources on the way. After reaching the campsite in Chatru take a short break and get ready to visit Chandratal Lake (48 km, 2hrs drive). Drive back to the campsite before dinner.

Day 6: Drop to Manali by afternoon

It’s time to say goodbye, after breakfast drive back to Manali(64 km, 2hrs).

HOW TO REACH

Manali is the assembly point of the Hampta Pass trek. There are buses/cabs available from Delhi and Chandigarh to Manali. Pathankot Railway station is also within 300 km of Manali and can be reached by cab/bus.

FITNESS REQUIRED

You can start by jogging every day and free hand workout for 30-45 days before the trek.

BEST TIME TO TREK

The best time to do the Hampta Pass trek is from June to September. This is when the weather is relatively stable, with clear skies and moderate temperatures. It’s important to note that the weather in the mountains can be unpredictable, so it’s always a good idea to check the local weather conditions before planning your trek.

CONS OF THIS TREK

While the Hampta Pass trek offers incredible experiences, it’s important to consider a few potential challenges. The trek can be physically demanding, especially for those who are not accustomed to high-altitude hiking. The weather in the Himalayas can be unpredictable, so you may encounter rain or snowfall, which can make the trail more challenging. The trek requires proper preparation and equipment. The rewards of the Hampta Pass trek will far outweigh any cons.
